What is Heaven Like?

"What question would you ask God if you could talk to him?" The ninth most asked question, according to a survey in the Tampa Tribune, 9) "What is heaven like?"

The term "heaven" is used some 255 times in the New Testament, King James Version, of the bible. To get a complete picture of what heaven is like and who will be there, you should open your bible, and a good concordance, and read all these scriptures (Psalm 119:160).

Jesus told His disciples, "In my Father's house are many mansions: if it were not so, I would have told you. I go to prepare a place for you. And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again, and receive you unto myself; that where I am, there ye may be also. And whither I go ye know, and the way ye know" (John 14:2-4). Jesus said that in heaven there are many mansions and that He was going there to "prepare a place". Heaven is, as someone has said, “a prepared place for a prepared people.”

The apostle John gives us the most vivid description of heaven in the Book of Revelation. "And God shall wipe away all tears from their eyes; and there shall be no more death, neither sorrow, nor crying, neither shall there be any more pain: for the former things are passed away" (Revelation 21:4).

In heaven, all things will be completely new, "And he that sat upon the throne said, Behold, I make all things new. And he said unto me, Write: for these words are true and faithful" (Revelation 21:5).

Those in heaven will be the sons of God, "He that overcometh shall inherit all things; and I will be his God, and he shall be my son" (Revelation 21:7).

And there will be no wicked sinners in heaven, "But the fearful, and unbelieving, and abominable, and murderers, and whoremongers, and sorcerers, and idolaters, and all liars, shall have their part in the lake which burneth with fire and brimstone: which is the second death...And there shall in no wise enter into it any thing that defileth, neither whatsoever worketh abomination, or maketh a lie: but they which are written in the Lamb's book of life" (Revelation 21:8, 27).

Finally, John gives this beautiful picture of heaven: "And he shewed me a pure river of water of life, clear as crystal, proceeding out of the throne of God and of the Lamb. In the midst of the street of it, and on either side of the river, was there the tree of life, which bare twelve manner of fruits, and yielded her fruit every month: and the leaves of the tree were for the healing of the nations. And there shall be no more curse: but the throne of God and of the Lamb shall be in it; and his servants shall serve him: And they shall see his face; and his name shall be in their foreheads. And there shall be no night there; and they need no candle, neither light of the sun; for the Lord God giveth them light: and they shall reign for ever and ever" (Revelation 22:1-5).
