Life Is Like The Grass

Are you ready to die? I know that's not a very pleasant thought, however, we all need to consider this. So, I'll repeat the question, are you ready to die?

Though many folks live to a ripe old age, there are many that die young. Death can over take any of us at any time or place. Death may come by accident, disease, murder and even old age. By whatever means death comes, it will come! "And as it is appointed unto men once to die, but after this the judgment" (Hebrews 9:27). I say again, the question each of us need to consider, are you ready to die?

Life is brief. "Whereas ye know not what shall be on the morrow.  For what is your life? It is even a vapour, that appeareth for a little time, and then vanisheth away" (James 4:14). We’re not going to live forever on this earth.

Life as we know it will end one day. "But the day of the Lord will come as a thief in the night; in the which the heavens shall pass away with a great noise, and the elements shall melt with fervent heat, the earth also and the works that are therein shall be burned up. Seeing then that all these things shall be dissolved, what manner of persons ought ye to be in all holy conversation and godliness" (II Peter 3:10-11).

Life is like the grass that soon withers away. "For all flesh is as grass, and all the glory of man as the flower of grass. The grass withereth, and the flower thereof falleth away" (I Peter 1:24).

When we die: 1) Our spirit (soul) will leave our body (James 2:26). 2) Our body will decay, that is turn back to dust (Genesis 3:19; Ecclesiastes 12:7). 3) Our spirit will go to a place called Hades (Luke 16:19-31). 4) At the coming of Jesus (His second coming) all the dead shall be raised (John 5:28-29). 5) All shall stand before the judgement seat of Christ (2 Corinthians 5:10). 6) After the judgement we will spend eternity in either heaven or hell depending on how we lived our lives on earth (2 Corinthians 5:10; Matthew 25:34, 41, 46).

The apostle Paul says there will be some that will be alive at the second coming of Jesus Christ. "For this we say unto you by the word of the Lord, that we which are alive and remain unto the coming of the Lord shall not prevent (precede, NASB, that is, to move before, LS) them which are asleep.  For the Lord himself shall descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of the archangel, and with the trump of God: and the dead in Christ shall rise first: Then we which are alive and remain shall be caught up together with them in the clouds, to meet the Lord in the air:  and so shall we ever be with the Lord. Wherefore comfort one another with these words" (I Thessalonians 4:15-18).

Friend, the day of our death is unknown. When we die, or the Lord comes, we better be ready! If you're not a Christian, why not obey the Gospel today (Mark 16:15-16; Acts 2:38). Are you ready to die?
