God is Awesome!!

Today we will look at some of the attributes of God which will give us a better understanding of the One that created the universe.

The Bible teaches that, God is a Spirit being (John 4:24). Jesus said that, "a spirit hath not flesh and bones" (Luke 24:39). Paul said of Jesus Christ, the Son of God, "Who, being in the form of God (a Spirit, emp LS), thought it not robbery to be equal with God: But made himself of no reputation, and took upon him the form of a servant, and was made in the likeness of men: And being found in fashion as a man, he humbled himself, and became obedient unto death, even the death of the cross" (Philippians 2:6-8). "In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God...And the Word was made flesh, and dwelt among us, (and we beheld his glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father,) full of grace and truth" (John 1:1,14). Also take note that one day, those of "the resurrection of life" (John 5:29), will be "in a moment, in the twinkling of an eye, at the last trump" (I Corinthians 15:52) "like him; for we shall see him as he is" (I John 3:2). "Even so, come, Lord Jesus" (Revelation 22:20).

The Bible says that God is eternal. "Lord, thou hast been our dwelling place in all generations. Before the mountains were brought forth, or ever thou hadst formed the earth and the world, even from everlasting to everlasting, thou art God" (Psalms 90:1-2). God is without beginning or end, past or future; with God all things are present. God is not bound by time, "But, beloved, be not ignorant of this one thing, that one day is with the Lord as a thousand years, and a thousand years as one day" (2 Peter 3:8).

God is Omniscient, that is, all knowing. "O, Lord, thou hast searched me, and known me. Thou knowest my downsitting and mine uprising, thou understandest my thought afar off. Thou compassest my path and my lying down, and art acquainted with all my ways. For there is not a word in my tongue, but, lo, O Lord, thou knowest it altogether" (Psalms 139:1-4). God knows the thoughts of each and every person on earth at the same time, yes, knowing the very heart of man (I Samuel 16:7).

Our God is Omnipotent, that is, all powerful. God said to Abraham, "I am God Almighty" (Genesis 17:1). God created the universe with just His spoken word, "Then God said" (Genesis 1:3). And God will destroy the universe with the power of His might (2 Peter 3:10). My friend, look all around us; do not the trees, flowers, the grass, birds, etc. show the great and awesome power of God Almighty?

God is also Omnipresent, that is, everywhere. The Psalmist David said, "Whither shall I go from thy spirit: or whither shall I flee from thy presence?" (Psalms 139:7). Many are trying to hide from God even today. Why have we not learned the lesson of Jonah? "Neither is there any creature that is not manifest in his sight: but all things are naked and opened unto the eyes of him with whom we have to do" (Hebrews 4:13).

Indeed, God is the Great I Am!
