Is Jesus Your Savior?

For the past two weeks, we have studied from the Word of God concerning the Authority Names given Jesus. Today we will look at some of the Salvation Names given Jesus.

Jesus is "the author of eternal salvation unto all them that obey him" (Hebrews 5:9). The word AUTHOR means, "that which causes something" W. E. Vine’s. Jesus is the cause of our salvation, "for he shall save his people from their sins" (Matthew 1:21). Peter said, "Neither is there salvation in any other:  for there is none other name under heaven given among men, whereby we must be saved" (Acts 4:12).

John called Jesus "the Lamb of God, which taketh away the sin of the world" (John 1:29). LAMB is an Old Testament idea taken from Isaiah the prophet: "He was oppressed and he was afflicted, Yet he did not open his mouth; Like a lamb that is led to slaughter, And like a sheep that is silent before its shearers, So He did not open His mouth" (Isaiah 53:7). The apostle Peter records, "Forasmuch as ye know that ye were not redeemed with corruptible things, as silver and gold, from your vain conversation received by tradition from your fathers; But with the precious blood of Christ, as of a lamb without blemish and without spot" (I Peter 1:18-19). Jesus is the Lamb of God that was offered for the sins of the whole world (John 3:16).

An angel called Jesus by the name of SAVIOUR in (Luke 2:11), "For unto you is born this day in the city of David a Saviour, which is Christ the Lord". This name also is an Old Testament idea taken from the prophet Isaiah: "And it will become a sign and a witness to the Lord of hosts in the land of Egypt; for they will cry to the Lord because of oppressors, and He will send them a Savior and a Champion, and He will deliver them" (Isaiah 19:20 NASB). Here we see the idea of the Saviour as being a deliverer, a preserver. Paul said, "Of this man's seed hath God according to his promise raised unto Israel a Saviour, Jesus" (Acts 13:23).

Peter said, "Thou art the Christ, the Son of the living God" (Matthew 16:16). Jesus is the CHRIST or Messiah which means, "the anointed one" as used in (John 1:41) - "He first findeth his own brother Simon, and saith unto him, We have found the Messias, which is, being interpreted, the Christ." Notice Jesus’ reply to the women at the well: “The woman saith unto him, I know that Messias cometh, which is called Christ:  when he is come, he will tell us all things. Jesus saith unto her, I that speak unto thee am he" (John 4:25-26). Jesus is the Christ, a deliverer and Saviour of His people.

We learn from the Salvation Names given Jesus that He is the Author of our salvation; the sacrificial Lamb of God for our sins; the Saviour or deliverer for all men; and He is the Christ, the anointed one of God who will save those that obey Him.  Jesus is our salvation! Will you obey Him that you might be saved?
