Are You Dead?

Are you dead? If you are outside of Christ (having never obeyed the gospel of Jesus Christ) you are spiritually dead. A soul outside of Christ has not been forgiven of their sins by the blood of Christ. Those unforgiven sins bring death, "For the wages of sin is death" (Romans 6:23). The prophet of old said, "The soul that sinneth, it shall die" (Ezekiel 18:20).

We all need to be made alive in Christ. Since all have sinned (Romans 3:23), then all have need of being made alive. Paul says this is possible, "For as in Adam all die, even so in Christ shall all be made alive" (I Corinthians 15:22).

Jesus Christ is Life. The reason Jesus came to this earth was "...that they might have life, and that they might have it more abundantly" (John 10:10). Jesus also said that He is "the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me" (John 14:6).

Life is available to every person. "And you, being dead in your sins and the uncircumcision of your flesh, hath he quickened ("made alive" NASB) together with him, having forgiven you all trespasses" (Colossians 2:13).

How is Life possible? Life is possible when one has his sins forgiven. How does one get forgiveness of sins? Notice what Paul said earlier, "Buried with him in baptism, wherein also ye are risen with him through the faith of the operation of God, who hath raised him from the dead" (Colossians 2:12). Jesus was raised from the dead alive, by the power of God, never to die again.

When one obeys the gospel of Jesus Christ, they must obey Christ's command to be baptized (Mark 16:16). When one is buried with Christ in baptism, he arises as Christ did, alive, having every sin washed away by His blood. Paul said it this way, "Therefore we are buried with him by baptism into death: that like as Christ was raised up from the dead by the glory of the Father, even so we also should walk in newness of life. For if we have been planted together in the likeness of his death, we shall be also in the likeness of his resurrection" (Romans 6:4-5).

Are you dead? Why not be made alive today in Christ!
